painting pressure treated wood Posted by michael schwartzman on June 11th, 2000 11:18 PM In reply to Painting deck posts by Bruce M on May 12th, 1998 09:33 PM [Go to top of thread]
I installed a new, pressure treated wood deck on the rear of my house last winter. Now six months later, it's ready for stain and sealer. However, I think I would rather paint the deck rails and posts to set them off from the decking material. Deck company representatives that work in the area have told me I can only stain PT wood and I don't believe them. As an architect, I know there has got to be a way to do this - maybe using metal primer rather than typical wood primer? Maybe applying a white stain to the wood and then priming and painting? Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Please email responses to my work address as noted. Thanks, Mike
