It currently has salt and a little water in the brine tank. So I'd add a cup of bleach and about 5 gallons of water to it and force a regeneration? I assume I would at least need the water supply into the system on for this, but should I leave the softener's output pipe (what normally carries the softened water) valve closed to avoid sending the sanitizing solution into the house's pipes? Or does the valve assembly of the softener automatically bypass the unit when regenrating? Then you say to rinse the bleach off any parts... by that do you just mean the inside of the brine tank ?? Should I force a few regenrations with non-bleach water to flush the entire system out after sanitizing it? Do I need to get the salt out of the brine tank before doing all this? Sorry for the million questions... Thanks!!
