Kenmore 5 qt stand mixer

I have recently acquired a new Kenmore KSM100 stand mixer. I have used it a couple of times only on the 1 - 4 speed settings but the mixer is VERY noisy and this does not seem normal. Is there something I can do to reduce the noisiness or might there be a problem that needs fixing. I am several hours away from any kind of appliance repair centre.
