Bondo is a filled, polyester epoxy resin material. It hardens quickly when the resin is mixed with its hardener. The two materials come in a "kit" with the hardener being in a small tube in a separate plastic top that is on top of the metal can that holds the filled resin. It takes about 20 minutes for the mixed resin and hardener to reach 95% or so of it's ultimate hardness and the hard material is pink/red colored and paintable. The Bondo does smell a bit when it has just been mixed but the smell goes away quickly with good ventilation. You will be working outside so you should not have any problem.

In real thin (less than 1/4") sections or so and without something hard backing the repair patch, it can break out relatively easily. You may want to back up a hole bigger than about 3/4" diameter with thin sheet metal (tin can stock) or something similar. Also, it will stick to paint or metal but if you have it just stuck to paint, the paint will be the first thing to break loose. Remove the paint with a wire brush, emery paper or something so the Bondo can stick to metal.

Bondo is made as an automobile body dent filler and used as part of the dent repair process. Most people with cars don't do theirown body work so don't feel bad about not being familiar with it. But it is good for a lot of things around the house. Do a google search for Bondo or Bondo Marhyde and their site will give you lots of other uses.
