We tried to save money by polyurethaning our hard wood floors ourselves. Two problems: 1.We didn't sand at all. 2. We used too much polyurethane (9 gallons, making 3 coats on 450 sq. ft.)The polyurethane didn't dry so we called a professional company to look at it. They said the floors would dry and be fine it would just take a long time, like 3 weeks. After 3 weeks the floors seemed dry yet the house smelled very strongly of polyurethane so we aired out the house for another 2 weeks. Now the house smells like wet wood. We scraped up polyurethane in a few areas and in some the undercoat is still wet. What should we do? How do we correct the situation?
