In mid June 2001 we bought a 18,000 btu window air conditioner. It was put in a week later. It lasted until early July 2001 and was installed and replaced by Home Depot as defective. In MN we do not have that many hot days. Used it 2002 occasionally, same in 2003. Then 2004 there was loud clunk and smoke. We have not been able to use it since. What a waste of almost $500.00. No one will repair it unless we bring it in. No way. My husband and I are both almost 70 and both have had heart attacks and my husband has had bypass surgery. We have two other window air conditioners in the downstairs that are 20-25 years old with no problems. Guess we should have stayed away from Hampton Bay!!!!
