Finishing Hardwood floors

I knew I had hardwood floors. I wanted to take the carpet up and reveal the hardwood floors, but there must be a gallon of paint on the floor. Before I get into this, I would like to have some direction since I have never done anything like this before.

I know the floor is going to have to be refinished. I tried a product called "Goof Off" and it will remove the paint, but the floor is going to have to be refinished.

I would appreciate any help.
