Home theatre projection screen installation....... Posted by KitaruSapien on August 7th, 2005 12:04 PM
I am constructing a home theatre widescreen that is a massive 159"x88". My intention is to sleekly carve a section of our popcorn ceiling/drywall away, loft the screen on it's ginge assembly so it fitr horizontally into said ceiling area, and then recoat the back(exposed side)of the screen with new popcorn material to make the ceiling look relatively whole again. A motorixed assembly will lower the screen from it's horizontal to it's drop-down vertical position. The problem here is that the screen's thickness( with it's necessary 1/2" square aluminum framing and twin 1/8" screen facing plates for stiffness)necessitates the removal of the underlying drywall, and not just the popcorn coating. I need to know the following:
1. What tools do I need to precisely remove the popcorn/drywall in that 159"x88" area?
2. What should I place(must be very thin)against the exposed ceiling beams to seal the screen-face from ceiling debris when it's up in the closed position?
3. Suggestions as to hinge assemblies/quick disconnects to maintain the closed position of the screen?
4. Suggestions as to the motor assembly/control arms to lower and raise the screen assembly(I can lower and raise manually, but I think it'd be much cooler to have a motorized unit?)
5. Suggestions for materials/method to derive the tightest possible fit of the screen to the existing ceiling area so that it doesn't look crappy!?
THANKS SO MUCH!!!
