You really don't need to do that, all you need is to buy a softener over the internet and assemble it yourself. Most sell for less than $1000 depending on the size you need. I think the best control valve is the Clack WS-1. It is the easiest of all to repair if needed and it has varaible reserve and soft water brine refill. It doesn't require any special tools to work on it as Most Fleck control vavles do.
