Hi Patti
Steve offers good advice.
One additional point....you really needn't cut the laminate to its exact dimension. I cut mine 1" or so too long, glue it down then route the overhaning edge. This way you don't have to worry about splitting the formica while cutting. Oh, and I've had best luck cutting formica with a metal cutting blade, and as Steve said, make sure it is right up to the edge of a solid surface to give it support while cutting.
