In your case, the kraft facing should be an adequate vapor barrier, but it would be acceptable to use unfaced batts and stretch polyetylene over the wall prior to hanging drywall. In very hot humid climates, we worry as much about moisture passing from outside and condensing at the cool (air conditioned) inside wall. Your humidities are not as extreme as in the mid-south and great lakes, but its there. Also, being an older house, you have lots of infiltration. During the winter heating season, humidity in the house can potentially pass through insulation to the outside wall and condense on sheathing or siding. The vapor barrier limits this. If interior humidities are high, I would be inclined to install plastic vapor barrer; if lower, then the kraft is fine.
