Front door kicked in, who to fix frame/jamb? Posted by thiggy on September 20th, 2005 07:45 AM In reply to Front door kicked in, who to fix frame/jamb? by charles288n on September 19th, 2005 09:00 PM [Go to top of thread]
Is your question who (what trade) or how to repair the damaged door jamb? If who, any finish carpenter or home repair service should be able to handle the project.
If how, you need to remove the whole jamb and replace at least the side which has been damaged. Carefully remove the interior casing to avoid damaging the drywall or plaster. Remove the door from its hinges. To remove the jamb from the rough opening, you need to cut the nails between the jamb and rough opening with a Sawzall. (A hacksaw blade will work, but it would take forever.) Once all the attaching nails have been cut, use a utility knife and slice the caulking which seals the brick mould to the exterior siding/brick. You should then be able to slide the jamb assembly forward out of the opening. This will allow you to remove and replace the broken lock side of the jamb.
