internal wiring of a ceiling fan

I have had to rewire a ceiling fan because the 3-speed pull-chain control broke. So far I have two wires from the motor attached to the same color wires on the reversing switch; one to the capacitor, and two attached to the wires that take power away from the 3-speed control. That leaves one purple wire from the motor (It's a Brown & Windsor fan if that matters.) that I have not attached to anything.
The only sets of wires without a wire from the motor attached are the black and white. Where should I attach that last wire from the motor?
