You might want to get an electrictian to check it out before you assume it needs replacing. My understanding of knob and tube is that back then they were really afraid of electricity and were extra careful in installing the wiring. The name "knob and tube" are what might be considered "overkill" in safety today. They are in fact an insullator at each turn and passage through lumber. You don't get that today.
