I am hanging our chandelier and I have to thread a cord wire through the links of the chandelier and then at the top connect the cord to the outlet box wires.

The problem is that the wires on the cord are insulated in a brown color. There is no distinction between the black (hot) wire and the white (neutral) wire.

How do I determine it. One side of the insulated wire has some numbers/writing on it but that is the only difference.

Can anyone let me know which side is supposed to go to the white wire in the outlet box and which wire is supposed to go the black wire in the outlet box.

THANKS!!!!
