Yes, they don't open from the outside Posted by ArmbarAngel on October 20th, 2005 11:29 AM In reply to deadbolts by Unregistered-lg on October 20th, 2005 07:05 AM [Go to top of thread]
Thank-you for replying, however I am familiar with the type of lock I need to install, as I've seen them in every rental I've lived in before I bought a house. They have a turn knob on the inside, and nothing on the outside. The state calls them a "keyless deadbolt" in the Health & Safety Code, but newer products using wireless technology have taken over that name and manufacturers call it a "single-sided deadbolt". It is NOT the same thing as a single cylinder deadbolt.
The point of this device is for people NOT to be able to open it from the outside. It is intended to make it very secure for someone who is within the rental unit, so that if they've given a key to a boyfriend/girlfriend, and then they break-up, the person with the key still can't get in while the other person is inside and the deadbolts are locked. Since you have to be inside to close or open the lock, you obviously can't close it from the outside, so this deadbolt won't be locked when nobody is home.
Personally, I would far rather have a single cylinder deadbolt on every door, so I can lock it while I'm away from home too. However, I'm discriminating about who I give my keys to, so locking someone with a key out isn't an issue of concern for me.
