dishwasher overflow

After reading the other responses, make sure you've assembled the air gap overflow properly. Mine "malfunctioned" for months until I discovered that a small, internal "cap" with two holes in it (that allow the overflow water to come out) was oriented improperly. BOTH those holes should be on the drain side of the slot...toward the garbage disposal or drain. The dummy who designed it didn't mold in any way of preventing one of those holes to be placed on the source side of the slot (from the dishwasher pump), so water comes shooting out even when there isn't any backpressure on the disposal side. So take the cap/shell of your air gap assembly and see if you can re-orient the top. Hope this helps!
