I was a fool to believe the commercials of the Maytag repairman being lonely.

Although we could't afford it, we still bought the Maytag frontloader washing machine. Our justification was: a great product (because the commercial said so), saved water, saved on laundry detergent, saved on electricity, and saved $ by not having repair bills. How wrong we were! The repairman just left, again, and this time it cost almost $300.

I too have been having problems with improper drainage, door latch, etc., etc., But this time, the boot had a crack in it (about an 8 inch slit) and water spilled all over the place. (carpet now needs to be replaced.) As long as the repairman was here, he also replaced the pump, which was starting to go out. Hopefully it will clear up the drainage issue and my towels won't be soaking wet. Because on occasion, I have had to wring out clothes before putting it into the dryer, which by the way, is costing us lots of $ for electricity charges due to the extended drying time.

I figured out that the 'max extract' button does not work. So don't bother using it. Also, don't wash in the 'cotton/heavy duty' cycle. Use the 'permanent press' cycle for everything. It seems to drain better. Don't put too many clothes in the washer (even though the Maytag video says that it can accomodate a large load! BS) And when worse comes to worse (and it will), have your friendly washing machine repairman (we are on a 1st name basis now), come and clean or replace the pump. Then while he is giving the machine a good check up, patiently listen to all the other problems that he has encountered with the Maytag frontloaders. Listen to why it is such a lousy machine, and why he would never buy one. But things do get better, he says the Maytag toploaders are worse than the frontloaders and we are lucky we don't have one of those!
:)
