I recently had to have 4 8"x9"x4" roof vents installed to acommodate an attic fan. However the it looks like they were just placed on top of the shingles and a bead of caulk laid down to seal them. Shouldn't the top of the flange be place under the shingles to prevent future leaks?, or is it ok to have it sitting on top. A circular whole was cut into the roof to accept the vent.
