Sounds like a power company open neutral.. Posted by Jasper on December 3rd, 2005 06:11 PM In reply to Lights pulsing..sometimes brightening by tommyd on December 3rd, 2005 02:38 PM [Go to top of thread]
* You start out with a light from one phase to neutral, but since the neutral is open, the current finds its way to the other phase through a light connected from the other phase to neutral. The Neutral being the center point of the series circuit.
* Now! you turn on the frying pan, which is in parallel to one of the lights. The circuit in parallel lowers the resistance in half, creating a higher voltage drop in the light that is in series. Turning the frying pan on and off will change the brightness of the series light.
* The above condition will not occur if the Neutral is connected to the power company neutral.
* Kerchoffs law states that the sum of the currents going into a series/parallel circuit is equal to the current leaving the circuit.
* When the frying pan is turned on, you now have two paths of current going into the single light path Thereby causing it to burn brighter.
* Good luck... Adios... Jasper...
