Its not how many feet in a room,but how many watts you need.typically I think you take the sq. footage of a room x6 for newer houses and x8 for older houses example 12x12 foot room =144 sq.ft x6 =864 so you should put in a base heater of 1000 watts for that room.They come in 350,500,1000,1500,1750or 2000 watts A 500 is to small for this size room so you need to go to a 1000
