I've also had lanolium turn nearly black from the reaction of material in felt pads that have been installed to the bottom of chairs. I've tried using bleach in an attempt to lighten the color of the lanolium, and was totally unsuccessful. So it would seem that the issue was not a stain, but that the properties in the vinyl flooring have changed permanently, unfortunately....
