light problem Posted by carljcp on March 22nd, 2006 08:08 AM In reply to How do I determine which light switch is bad? by Unregistered-Crizlow on March 19th, 2006 12:05 PM [Go to top of thread]
The fan and the light may be contolled entirely separately. This requires more wiring between the switches and light and fan. And more switches also. If you are controlling the light/fan from three different locations using a total of three switches, this means you are using two 3-way switches and one 4-way switch. Of course, you have the pull chain switches at the fan/light fixture itself. If you do have power on the fan but not the light and the fan works from all three locations , then the problem is almost surely in the light/fan fixture. But as the other fellow stated: Be sure the pull chain is pulled. Those pull chain switches are cheaply made and the source of many problems. If you do have problems in the 3 or 4 way switch or other wiring problems, this is probably beyond the scope of a do-it yourselfer. Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
