I have just recently had a hardwood floor installed. The flooring was an engineered prefininshed hardwood. The flooring was glued to the subfloor prepared with a luon covering on the main level of the house. My wife and I have seen (perhaps 75% to 85% or more of the boards) noticiable gaps between the butt-ends of the boards. Most of these gaps are 1/16th of an inch or a little larger.
I have been getting conflicting information on the proper installation of the flooring. The majority of the people I have talked to say that a prefinished floor should have no noticeable gaps, while the minority of people say that the gaps are normal for expansion purposes and not to worry.
Please could someone give me some additional information and perhaps point me to some reference information on floor installation I could read.
