I like to use it in bathrooms up and down for moisture issues and people who use the shower for steam baths and refuse to run the fans(I married one of those). Otherwise it isn't necessary and isn't usually used around here. It costs a lot more for an entire basement. Buy a big humidifier with the savings. Greenboard is heavier and more solid to use but not worth the extra money unless your basement is very wet but the humidifier makes more since. Do the moisture test, 3 sq.ft. piece of plastic duct taped all around on the wall and one on the floor. Check them in 3 days for moisture.
I assume you mean 3 1/2" studs. Keep your studs and insulation about an inch from the inside wall so any condensation will not soak right into the insulation.
