Thanks Jay J, for the link. The floor I have is a total of 1 3/8 inch thick, but the top layer is 5/8 inch particle board. I want to put 3/8 inch ceramic tile down right over the top. BUT: The site says very clearly: "Whatever you do, don't ever use particle board, flake board, or masonite as underlayment for ceramic tile " I guess my curious mind wonders why not? Expansion/contraction? Poor adhesion? Other factors? Still wondering, Dodgeman
