Replace ceiling fans with fan/light/remote Switch question

We have two fans - living and family rooms. Both pull cords and on the same switch, which is a dimmer switch.
We just purchased new fans Harbor Breeze from Lowe's with lights and remotes. Everything seems to be wired correctly up top but think we are having trouble due to the dimmer switch?
What type of switch should we be using instead? We tried a regular on/off light switch but that didn't work either.
Remote codes are programmed and lights on remotes work, but something with the switch seems to be preventing them from working.
Couldn't be a faulty fan since we bought 2 - what are the odds of that? Any suggestions?
