Plugging sounds like the easiest way to go. Instead of a plug cutter, a cheaper alternative may be to get some of the cup shaped hole bits that fit inside of each other. Redrill the the present holes with the smallest hole bit that will make a round hole. Use the next larger bit to cut the plug. May just need a little sanding to glue and fit. Cut it in a closet, under the washer/dryer, stove, refrig, etc. to match. Fill any other hole with matching wood from the lumber yard.
