My experience is with using a jet pump to pump out of a lake for irriagtion.

I would think that there would be some kind of casing that would out extend high enough to keep out ground water. That is basically all I know about wells.

But you should not have standing water under the house in any case.

You need to work on the drainage.

First start with the gutters and have downspouts that discharge the water at least 6 ft from the house, 8-10 is better.

And grade the ground so that it slopes away from the house the same distance.
