Converting a Single 16' wide garage door into 2 8' wide doors...

Posted by Wes Whitmore on January 4th, 2007 02:21 PM

I have a woodshop in my basement. I have dust collection, but I hate lugging down raw lumber through my clean area, and have thought about taking half of the 2 car garage and making it a shop. I want to take it a step further and build a wall down the middle of the garage. one side for the car, and one side dedicated for the shop. I want to take out the single 16' door and replace it with a pair of independant doors. This will require me to build a wall down the center of the room (I will put a man door to connect the two sides of the garage), and building the middle section of the doors to mount the tracks, and then installing vinyl siding and what ever else. Has anyone done this before, and what are the drawbacks besides not having a 20' x 22' open space any longer? I want to keep the dust contained to the workshop side.
Thanks,
Wes
