question about choosing water softeners

Posted by lostangel on January 18th, 2007 10:41 PM

hello everyone...

i am going to be moving into my first house, and i have chosen a house that is in a water district where the water varies from 21-24 grains per gallon (according to the water report from the district). i have never lived in an area with hard water before, but have been told by many people that i should get a water softener installed.

i did some research online and found varying feedback on brands like culligan, kinetico, and ecowater. i had contacted culligan as they offered a free water testing kit, and the result of that was far too many emails and phone calls from a sales person (even though i mentioned on the form i had not moved yet and had also mentioned i wanted to be contacted by email only). long story short, i was already wary of big-time sales tactics by water softener companies, and this has completely turned me off to culligan.

i understand that going to a big box retailer and getting a water softener from there is a bad idea given the quantity of hardness of this water. that said, is there a water softener company out there that will sell you only what you truly need and won't make you feel dirty in dealing with them (pun intended)?

i'm in colorado, if it's of any use information-wise.

thanks!
-l
