ceramic tile

i have ceramic tile on my kithcen and dinning room floors. there are nicks in the tile and they collect dirt and look like dirty spots. so how do i clean the tile and is there any thing i can use to seal the tile so this don't happen again? ps the tiles are 12x12 and white.
