In Hot/Humid New Orleans Sprayed"GreenBean" Foam Insulation is the "hottest" thing. It seals MUCH better than fiberglass batts, and in attics they even advocate sealing all openings (vents, fans, etc), spray the foam on the attic ceiling which they claim will not allow 100 degree humid air in, AND maintaining the attic temp only 10 degrees above the living quarters.I KNOW what that would save in utility costs. I'm willing to do the ground floor crawl space over 4' piers, but can't believe that there are not some pitfalls, drawbacks in the attic application.Don't see it advertized,or very little and found out about it only after my neighbor had his ground floor done. Cost was $2,000 for 1,500sqft, but 6" of fiberglass is $1,500 NOT counting installation!
Sure would like to hear from some experts from the hot/humid south.
