Holes behind shower wall

Had to tear down one part of our shower wall to get access to leaking pipes. Now there is a couple of holes in the drywall around the showerhead arm and the faucet. We will be replacing the shower wall with a new one, possibly a whole knew shower kit, but am worried about repatching the holes in the drywall. If there is leaking in the future we'd just have to tear down the shower and knock holes all over again. Would it be okay to leave the holes and still put the shower wall up over them?
