Plastic Tile

The previous owners put plastic tile on the wall of the kitchen. It is falling off, cracked, broken, and just not very attractive. I would like to remove it along with the thick glue substance that was used to apply it. The tiles are falling but the glue is still on the drywall. I would either paint or put up ceramic tile, but need to remove this tile glue first. Any suggestions on the best way to remove this without damaging the drywall?
