raising a countertop

I had floor tile installed in a bar area and now my mini-fridge won't fit under the counter. I need to raise the countertop about 1/2" to 3/4". Should I install a sheet of plywood on the cabinet frame and then lay the countertop directly over it? There is also a bar sink in the cabinet.
