A double 2X beam spanning 27 feet?... With a splice in the middle???... Maybe I don't understand, but the only thing I can think of is another post (or maybe two) to support the middle of this long a span. Also, a lot of times it is easier to use a girder beam and let the joists just rest on top of it and carry past a few feet. Please send more details.
