You said you would be using carriage bolts (as opposed to lag bolts, as I suggested.) Carriage bolts are probably better. That's what I used on my deck - but you need a long drillbit....
The beams will be 5'9" apart.? I assume that means you'll be using a ledger board attached to the house. Make sure you flash it well and use bolts, not nails to hold it up. Also make sure the bolts are going into studs, not just siding/sheathing. Again, 4.25" bolts.
