fixing bathroom wall

im trying to fix the bathroom wall, and the people before me put up quarter round trim along the floor and the shower. the wall appears to have cracked away from the trim. can i just pull the trim off and repair the wall with plaster? should i put up new trim or will it just crack the wall again? thanks
