You can do what you propose but not without the design of a structural engineer.

Once you move the floor joists of the attic from the top of the exterior bearing wall plates, you alter the ability of the current roof to support its loads and change the ability of the exterior bearing walls to resist being bowed out under load.

My intitial feeling is that what you propose would not be worth the cost.
