I prefer concrete backerboard for floor installations. Its thicker, more sturdy (doesn't flex as bad as hardibacker) and easier to cut. Hole cuts and L-cuts can be a pain with hardibacker (it's difficult to cut) so if you choose to go with it get a masonry type blade. Hardibacker will tear up a standard saw blade QUICK!
