I had steel put in about a year ago on a south facing door. It is filled with foam so heat transfer has been minimal at least to the touch. No worse than what I noticed with my old solid core wood door. I really have noticed nothing about the weight either. My only complaint is that the paint does scratch when bumped hard but I guess thats true of any door. They did at least supply touch up paint.
