I had the same problem. I went to Lowes and bought Adhesive Remover from Klean-Strip. Put it on, let it sit an hour and then scrap it off. It is made to remove the contact cement used on tile floors. Some places needed 2 coats, but sure beats THAT much elbow grease. It is very thick too, so you can glob it on the really troublesome spots. Hope this helps everyone that is looking!!
