Sonoran Desert Ironwood and American Hornbean comes from South American and not North America.

Henry is correct about the name ironwood.

And while Ipe is hard, it is not the hardest wood in the world.

There are variaties of ironwood.

The problem is that one company is using Iron Woods(tm) as a trademark for Ipe.

However, Henry was off the mark and this discussion was on decking. And AFAIK Ipe is the only commercially available ironwood used for decking.
