You've created a dangerous situation with your storm shelter attached thru the garage........Did you have this inspected ? The building codes place great emphasis on separating the garage from living spaces......requiring among others: a raised step/barrier to stop accidental fuel spills.....Fire rated doors ( sometimes self-closing)......Limited penetrations thru separation walls......... Your "design" allows any fuels or fumes from the garage direct below-grade access into your home..... "...measure once.....cut twice....throw that one away and cut a new one...."
