Weird Electrical Problem

While running a table saw, both it and the light in the room went out. At first I thought the breaker had kicked, but the light in a smaller room on the same breaker works. A worker at the local power company said it might be a burned out wall outlet. I removed every wall outlet and attached one new one to the first spot the wire enters the room. But no luck. When I put a voltage tester in the new outlet, it lights up. If I try to run any electrical items, the light goes out and nothing comes on. The whole time the light switch in the other room is working fine. I've exhausted my knowledge. The wiring between the rooms splits off somewhere in the attic which is virtually impossible to access. I'm hoping someone may have a suggestion to help me out. Thanks.
