My thought without seeing anything, considering this is not a permanent installation, would be to construct a framework of 2 X 4s around the tub. Install parallel "joists" on 16" centers to support the top firmly and use 1/2" or 5/8" plywood all around and on the top. Then carpet the top and sides.
