I too have the same opinion of GE. When the large burner quit a year ago, I registered online for service providing the model and serial number. The day the service tech showed up, he said as he walked in the door he need to see the model and serial number and replied, "these can't be repaired - no parts available". To this I replied, he could have saved the trip as I had provided the info on the service request. He shrugged and said he "never reads that". I was really upset. He said even if the parts were available, they would run in excess of $800. GE billed me $70 for the "service call"! I called and wrote them in protest to no avail. I sent the check with a note stating if they felt they were due the money in light of the facts presented and cashed the check, I would never buy another GE product. They cashed the check with no reply to the note.
I then did the research and found the postings here on the repair and was able to repair mine for less than $10. This is the issue that really makes me mad. GE as a company should be ashamed of themselves for such shoddy customer service. No one seems to want to fix anything any more, just throw it out and buy a new one, regardless of the fact the unit was less than ten years old and
I had paid more than $1500 for the unit when I built the house in 1997.
Sorry for the venting, but GE is definitely off my list of future appliance sources, even though I suspect the other manufacturers may be just as bad. Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
