Worked for me too (reversed) Posted by FlyerCurt on September 23rd, 2007 11:32 PM In reply to wiring diagram by Unregistered-avgod1 on July 19th, 2007 09:47 AM [Go to top of thread]

Dear Avgod,
Thanks for the Hunter Fan direct-wire conversion. Your direct wire plan worked (almost) for me. I tried Russ Larson's plan first and that did not spin my fan.
History: Our fan started turning its light on in the middle of the night. A different remote and changing codes did not help. So I bought a Lutron wall fan & light switch, ran another wire for the light, and did your direct-wire conversion, with a few changes.
1. Instead of buying a new one, I used the big yellow 5.0uF capacitor that was in the fan module, with the indented end toward the pink and WHITE connection (don't think polarity matters).
2. When I hooked up as you (Avgod) described, my fan was sucking upward, so I reversed the yellow and pink as you suggested. Now the fan blows downward at full speed. The new wall switch slider gives me two slower speeds too.
So my hookup is: a) red to non-indented-end capacitor wire, b) other capacitor wire to pink and WHITE (and the neutral lights wire), c) gray and yellow to (big) BLACK. The small black wire is just cut off at the base plate of the fan blades.
I ran another 16-2 sheathed electrical cable (using only the black) from the light portion of the new wall switch, up the wall, across the attic, through the fan mount, and ran the black wire down through the center fan tube, and connected it to the lights power wire. I discarded the old base module and reattached the light unit to the fan.
Thanks for everyone's team effort on making these fans useable again.
