if you're worried you can't get the glue off

We finally bit the bullet and pulled up our porch (pretty big) carpet. But first we checked out price of new carpet in case the porch was a mess. The carpet is about fifty cents a square foot, so we decided we could just recarpet if we couldn't deal with the glue. But if you have a balcony, could you just cut the carpet and lay it in place without glue? Then you could work on it over time, but still have a decent floor.

So far, the big scraper we bought for this is too hard for me to use (I'm not strong). But I found out by accident (hosing off the porch) that the power washer (small electric) in one hand and a putty knife in the other is getting a lot of it, because the water gets under the old glue and lifts it, where the putty knife would just scrape over the top. I just do a section at a time.

Still working on it...
